SPOKANE, Wash., Feb. 8, 2024 – The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), together with Molina Healthcare of Washington, recently presented a check for $80,000 to Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington (CCEW) in support of expanding services to families struggling with homelessness and housing instability.
Washington state ranks second in the country for most unhoused people per capita, according to data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In fact, 2,000 people attended Spokane’s 2024 Homeless Connect event, compared to 1,200 in 2023.
The MolinaCares grant, part of a larger effort to advance programs enhancing health equity by addressing social determinants of health, will provide a care coordinator for individuals living in CCEW’s supportive housing communities in Spokane.
“Through this grant, we hope to close a gap and create greater stability for families in Spokane,” said Dr. Jay Fathi, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Washington. “Molina is committed to improving health outcomes for individuals in Washington and we are proud to partner with CCEW in the great work they are doing.”
The coordinator will assist families living in CCEW’s supportive housing with navigating the health care system, health literacy, provider connections and other wrap-around support services.
“We are grateful for partners like Molina that share our dedication to providing solutions for the unhoused,” said Rob McCann, president and CEO of CCEW. “The MolinaCares grant will help us to proactively combat this growing issue and connect Washingtonians to the resources they need.”
