LAS VEGAS, Feb. 25, 2025 – The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Nevada (“Molina”), announced a $90,000 grant to the Behavioral Health Association of Nevada (“BHAN”). Funds will support BHAN’s membership in the National Council for Mental Wellbeing (“National Council”), a membership organization based in Washington, D.C. that drives policy and social change on behalf of thousands of mental health and substance use treatment organizations. Through participation in the National Council, BHAN will enhance its capacity-building efforts to increase high-quality behavioral health care in Nevada.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, more than 2 million Nevadans live in communities that do not have enough mental health professionals, causing delays in care that negatively impact health outcomes. Furthermore, almost 500,000 adults in Nevada have a mental health condition and more than 50 percent of those did not receive the needed treatmentMembership in the Council gives BHAN access to best practices from other members that can help inform and improve care for Nevadans.

“This effort enhances collaborations among behavioral health experts to better advocate for and strengthen solutions that address barriers many Nevadans encounter,” said Dr. Nima Alinejad, chief medical officer of Molina Healthcare of Nevada. “We are dedicated to supporting this proactive and collaborative approach to expand the exchange of information around behavioral health care solutions.”

Through this grant, BHAN will also have access to the National Council’s custom consulting, which will provide brainstorming and assistance on how to meet behavioral health needs of diverse populations. Membership will also help bolster BHAN’s growing coalition of members dedicated to improving access to behavioral health care in Nevada.

“We are grateful to MolinaCares for providing a grant that will help Nevadans benefit from the technical assistance provided by the well-respected National Council,” said BHAN Founder and President Steve Shell. “The membership will help increase support for our mission to improve the treatment of behavioral health and addiction challenges in our state. BHAN is dedicated to increasing public awareness, advancing policy, furthering funding, improving access to care, and supporting workforce development to address behavioral health and addiction challenges – all things that will be strengthened via our membership in the National Council.”

This partnership builds on Molina Healthcare of Nevada’s previous $2.8M investment, in collaboration with MolinaCares, that provided grants to improve access to health care and social services targeting health disparities among under-resourced communities in Clark, Washoe, and rural Nevada counties.
