SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Oct. 16, 2026 — The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Illinois (“Molina”), presented a $35,000 grant to the United Way of Central Illinois in support of its ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Emergency Fund.
The ALICE Emergency Fund provides one-time financial assistance to working households in Sangamon and Menard Counties facing unexpected financial hardship. Designed for ALICE families, the fund helps prevent homelessness and financial crisis by addressing urgent needs such as housing, childcare, transportation, and other essential expenses. Payments are made directly to vendors, helping families maintain stability and remain employed.
“We are grateful for Molina’s shared vision to overcome housing insecurity in our community,” said Marne Fauser, CEO and president, United Way of Central Illinois. “By collaborating with valued partners like Molina, we can make a real impact on the lives of those we serve.”
The ALICE Emergency Fund fills a critical gap in the local safety net by serving households that are often ineligible for traditional assistance programs but still lack the financial resources to weather an unexpected crisis. Most emergency assistance programs focus on individuals and families living below the Federal Poverty Level or those who qualify for public benefits. In contrast, the ALICE Emergency Fund is specifically designed for ALICE households — working individuals and families who earn too much to qualify for most government assistance but not enough to maintain financial stability when faced with a significant hardship.
The program is unique because it targets families who are generally self-sufficient and able to meet their ongoing financial obligations but have experienced a temporary setback such as a medical emergency, loss of income, death of a household member, divorce, loss of transportation, childcare disruption, or other unexpected expense. These households often need only short-term financial intervention to avoid a much larger crisis such as eviction, job loss, utility disconnection, or homelessness.
“Access to safe, stable housing is a key factor in the health and well-being of families in our community,” said Kris Classen, plan president at Molina Healthcare of Illinois. “By eliminating barriers to critical resources such as shelter, we enable individuals to successfully maneuver through challenging times.”
This latest investment is part of the over $5 million that Molina and The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation have contributed over the last two years to community organizations that play a vital role in improving health outcomes in Illinois.
