The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation Presents $35,000 Grant to HealthPoint to Increase Access to Maternal Care

SEATTLE, June 17, 2026 – The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Washington (“Molina”), announced a $35,000 grant to HealthPoint to reduce gaps in maternal care for Washington’s growing families. HealthPoint will use the funding to design and implement group care training at its clinics to expand access to maternity care for pregnant patients in the King County area, with a focus on improving access for non-English-speaking communities.
Only 70.6% of individuals who gave birth in King County began prenatal care during the first trimester in 2024. Prenatal care is a crucial part of promoting a healthy birth and can help reduce the risk of complications for both the parent and their infants. About one-third of King County residents aged 5 or older speak a language other than English at home, underscoring the importance of reducing language barriers so expectant individuals can receive timely care.
“Language and cultural competencies are an important part of a patient’s health care journey, especially through intensive medical times like pregnancy. Communicating in one’s primary language ensures better understanding of medical options and preferences,” said Kathrina Westby Sharman, COO at HealthPoint. “Molina’s grant will help us expand our group care model to additional sites, providing Washington families a better chance at a healthy start.”
Funding will support group care training for multidisciplinary teams including midwives, family practice obstetrics providers, medical assistants and language interpreters. Training covers clinical best practices and a 10-session prenatal model tailored to each clinic’s highest-need areas. A dedicated interpreter component ensures medical concepts are communicated clearly and accurately to patients.
