Spreading Holiday Cheer with Molina Healthcare of Illinois
In true holiday spirit, Molina Healthcare of Illinois (Molina) spent the season giving back to communities across Illinois by sponsoring community events, volunteering on the ground, and providing Illinoisians with helpful resources and support. By working alongside inspiring community partners, Molina expanded efforts to improve health outcomes and made a real difference in countless lives across Illinois.

The holidays can be an especially stressful time as more than 1.6 million people in Illinois experience hunger and more than 1.4 million Illinoisians live in poverty. It can also be an isolating time for many. In the U.S., 14 million people were projected to spend Christmas alone in 2025. Through community events, Molina brought residents together, supported local families in need of a nutritious, accessible meal, and shared valuable health information and resources with the community.
In November, Molina kicked off holiday giving by partnering with Springfield Clinic and One In A Million to host a meat bundle giveaway. During this event alone, Molina distributed more than 800 meat bundle boxes that contained hamburgers, chicken, and hot dogs to Springfield residents. The Mayor of Springfield made an appearance along with two police officers from the City of Springfield. Molina volunteers were on-site and had the opportunity to engage with community members who expressed their gratitude for the support.
Molina also participated in a Meals on Wheels event at Seasoned Circle Café Senior Center, preparing 400 treat bags for the attendees, and partnered with S.O.S. Soup Kitchen to host a Drive-Thru Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway where 300 delicious, hot-to-go holiday meals were handed out. These events were a success thanks to the support and dedication of our community partners who hosted and sponsored the holiday festivities, including Seasoned Circle Café Senior Center, Springfield Police Department, Springfield Clinic, One in a Million Inc., and S.O.S. Soup Kitchen.

Throughout December, Molina continued its holiday giving efforts, hosting and participating in various health and wellness events, food giveaways, and toy drives. Holiday cheer was in full swing at the Daisie Foundation’s Holiday Magic event at George Leland STEM School and the Holiday Magic Express event at Lawndale Community Academy. Molina helped surprise nearly 800 southside students with a visit from Santa’s elves who distributed gifts, treats, and festive goodies to take home.
At the Chicago Defender Home for the Holidays event, Molina helped to provide more than 1,600 families with toys, coats, and essential winter items. Molina also partnered with Heaven’s Kitchen and Fowler Bonan Foundation to host a Drive-Thru Christmas Dinner Giveaway to handout holiday groceries to families. In another effort, Molina partnered with Help at Home to host a Winter Wellness Resource Fair in Chicago, bringing together a wide range of community-based organizations committed to supporting the health stability and overall wellbeing of caregivers.
To round out the season, the Molina team volunteered at the Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery Holiday Store, helping nearly 40 children shop for gifts at their annual holiday fundraiser. Food security and domestic violence directly impact physical and mental health and create a lasting impact on those affected, underscoring the importance of supporting individuals in need.
With 2026 now in full swing, the Molina team is proud of everything we accomplished in 2025 to improve health outcomes and community wellbeing in Illinois and looks forward to continuing this critical work in the new year.
