PHARR, June 30, 2022 – A mobile food bank truck, sponsored by The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Texas (“Molina”) and H-E-B, will arrive in Pharr this Friday, July 1, where it will expand the transportation abilities of the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, serving Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties. The refrigerated truck began its journey on Monday, June 27 in Billings, Montana.

Through a $100,000 grant, MolinaCares purchased the truck for the food bank’s use across the Rio Grande Valley, enabling it to serve the larger community. The truck donation is part of MolinaCares’ Building Stronger Communities…One Life at a Time mission, which aims to promote health and wellness and address gaps in health care. The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley currently distributes 48 million meals annually and feeds over 76,000 people every week.

“Access to consistent, nutritious meals is a vital component of living a healthy life and we are proud to work alongside the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley to play a part in ensuring our neighbors don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from,” said Chris Coffey, plan president for Molina Healthcare of Texas. “We’re grateful to work with partners like H-E-B to help fight food insecurity in our state and ensure that every Texan can count on balanced meals for themselves and their families, contributing to stronger and healthier communities.”

The 26-foot refrigerated box truck has capacity for 10,000 pounds of food with 1,800 cubic feet of cargo space. After its arrival in Pharr, the truck will begin its work across the region, allowing the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley to expand its resources.
