ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Jan. 16, 2022 The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of New Mexico (“Molina”), recently provided a grant of $50,000 to Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless to support individuals experiencing homelessness and in need of comprehensive health care services in Central New Mexico. The grant is part of the MolinaCares for Families initiative, in which MolinaCares has committed over $400,000 to various community-based organizations to improve access to care statewide.

The grant funding, will support Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless’ primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services for individuals experiencing homelessness. According to estimates by the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness and Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, there are at least 16,000 individuals expected to experience homelessness this year in Bernalillo County alone, accounting for around 2.3% of county residents.

“Correlations between homelessness and health are evident. Through the MolinaCares for Families initiative, we are working to improve access to healthcare services and address social determinants of health for our vulnerable populations such as those experiencing homelessness,” said Carolyn Ingram, plan president for Molina Healthcare of New Mexico. “We are honored to partner with Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, an organization that tirelessly serves our housing insecure residents daily, to achieve our ultimate goal of ensuring quality health care for all New Mexicans.”

“Far too many of our fellow New Mexicans continue to struggle with unmet health needs due to a lack of stable housing,” said Jenny Metzler, CEO of Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH). “We are grateful to MolinaCares for their support in expanding programs that will improve the health and lives of those experiencing homelessness in our local community.”
