Molina Healthcare Partners with Uplift Laundry Truck to Provide Access to Free Laundry Services for Durham Residents and Families in Need

DURHAM, N.C., Aug. 12, 2025 – Molina Healthcare (“Molina”) is partnering with Uplift Laundry Truck to sponsor a series of “Wash & Wellness” free laundry events, providing critical laundry services and supplies to individuals and families in Durham. The initiative aims to improve health outcomes by bridging barriers to clean clothes while supporting local students and families during back-to-school season.
Laundry insecurity has a profound impact on health and wellbeing. Laundering clothes removes dirt and bodily fluids, helping prevent the spread and re-exposure to bacteria and pathogens that cause illness. Beyond illness risks, the lack of clean clothes can lead to reduced self-confidence and sociability, especially among young people. As 1 in 5 students nationally face limited access to clean clothes, Molina and Uplift Laundry Truck are working to remove barriers so families can enter the school year healthy and happy.
“Drawing on our previous experiences in public education and social services, we saw firsthand the community need for free laundry services, which led us to start Uplift Laundry Truck” said Joshua and Yasini Carr, co-founders of Uplift Laundry Truck. “Thanks to partners like Molina, we’re able to expand the reach of our free laundry services in the community, helping improve the social and emotional well-being of our local residents.”
Beginning in August, the “Wash & Wellness” event series will consist of five free laundry day events at laundromats across Durham. The first two events, scheduled for August 16 and August 30, marking the back-to-school season, will also feature local health resources, information, and family-friendly activities provided by community partners.
