BOTHELL, Wash., Oct. 9, 2024 – Molina Healthcare of Washington (“Molina”) recently donated $10,000 to The Rural Collaborative to help improve breast cancer screening rates in rural communities of Washington. According to The Rural Collaborative, 10% of mammograms on average have abnormal results. The grant, provided in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aims to increase awareness of mammogram screenings across the state so that issues can be detected early and individuals can obtain the care they need.

“Access to women’s health care and preventative services is a top priority at Molina and we are proud to partner with organizations that share that mission,” said Dr. Jay Fathi, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Washington. “We are grateful for the opportunity to join The Rural Collaborative in improving access to breast cancer screenings in underserved communities.”

Funds will support The Rural Collaborative’s campaign to bring mammography screenings to individuals who would otherwise not have access. As part of this campaign, 19 hospitals have agreed to raise breast cancer screening rates by 5% over their rates in 2023. If all participating hospitals meet their goals in 2024, a total of 35,396 patients will be screened — an increase of 1,674 from 2023.

“We are grateful for this generous grant,” said Elya Prystowsky, executive director of The Rural Collaborative. “It’s through support from partners like Molina that we are able to continue the work we are doing to help those in rural parts of our state thrive and live their healthiest lives.”
