Port Angeles, Wash., May 28, 2025 – Molina Healthcare of Washington (“Molina”) announced a $10,000 contribution to the First Step Family Support Center (“First Step”) to aid in the organization’s efforts in eliminating care gaps for Clallam and Jefferson County families. In addition to supporting the overall work of the nonprofit, the donation will help fund two First Step events for current and expectant parents and their children.

First Steps’ approach to family support is built on the belief parents are their child’s first teacher and emotional home. The center offers maternity support, parenting education classes, home visiting programs, and access to vital health and safety information.

Molina will sponsor First Step’s annual Community Connections Baby Shower May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Vern Burton Center in Port Angeles. The event will provide current and expectant parents with essential items like diapers as well as resources to support their journey into parenthood. Participants can attend seminars on parenting and childbirth and meet with local organizations at the shower’s resource fair.

“Ensuring parents and their children receive the care they need reduces health disparities, and Molina is proud to support First Step’s work to close these gaps,” said Dr. Frances Gough, chief medical officer, Molina Healthcare of Washington. “We look forward to partnering with the organization and local agencies for these upcoming events that will help underserved families in Clallam and Jefferson County.”

Molina will also sponsor the annual Duck Duck Boot event in October, where children in Port Angeles can pick up free pairs of new rain boots, receive a library card, and enjoy a fun-filled story time with local librarians.

“First Step is thrilled to receive this support from Molina,” said Elisia Anderson, executive director, First Step Family Support Center. “We value Molina’s partnership in imagining new ways to engage with families. In a year where many funding sources we rely on appear to be shrinking, we are honored that Molina has stepped up to ensure that some of the valuable events we provide for families are sustained.”
