HOUSTON, March 27, 2024 – Molina Healthcare of Texas (“Molina”) recently partnered with March of Dimesto commemorate World Doula Week, a time designated to help inform expecting mothers and others about the benefits of working with a doula to navigate the pregnancy and childbirth process.
“At March of Dimes, we know the emotional, physical, and educational support provided by doulas to our pregnant moms, their babies and families is immeasurable,” said Alicia Lee, director, MCH Collective Impact at March of Dimes. “Doula care can make labor and delivery safer for pregnant women and we support increased access to doula care for all moms and babies. Thank you to Molina for providing funding to allow more women of color to become community-based doulas in Harris County so that all families can have the best possible start.”
There are many benefits of working with a doula, including increasing new parents’ confidence in preparing for the birth of their child, increasing a mother’s satisfaction with the birth experience, and reducing the incidence of postpartum mood disorders.
“Molina is dedicated to ensuring all expecting mothers have a healthy pregnancy and delivery experience,” said Dr. Lindsey Vasquez, director of maternal and women’s health, Molina Healthcare of Texas. “As a practicing OB-GYN and mother of four children, I understand the importance of being well-prepared for the childbirth experience and the option to work with a doula is invaluable to many expecting mothers.”
