COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 23, 2024 – Molina Healthcare of Ohio (“Molina”) and Samaritan’s Feet Seniors provided 500 pairs of slip-resistant shoes to seniors at National Church Residences, a non-profit provider of affordable senior housing. The donations are part of Molina’s Stepping Ahead with Seniors, a series of shoe giveaways that, over three years, has resulted in 3,000 pairs distributed to Ohio seniors. The shoes are designed to reduce falls, the leading cause of injury among adults over the age of 65.

“With Ohio’s 65+ population growing in recent years, Molina has seen a growing demand for protective footwear and we are pleased to meet that need for thousands of Ohioans,” said Ami Cole, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Ohio. “Through our partnership with Samaritans Feet Seniors, we are helping seniors stay independent, safe and confident.”

The donated shoes are lightweight, anti-slip, anti-skid, and easy to fasten. In addition to shoes, each recipient received a “Hope Tote” containing new socks, hygiene kits, information on fall prevention, and an encouraging message from a volunteer.

“We have collaborated with Molina on this initiative for three years, and we’re excited to continue offering this valuable resource to Ohioans,” said Debbie Cox-Roush, manager of seniors program at Samaritan’s Feet International. “We are grateful to Molina for their support, helping us supply, pack, and distribute shoes, enabling Ohio seniors to continue living independently.”
