ALBUQUERQUE, NM – November 16, 2022 – The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of New Mexico, donated $40,000 to the New Mexico Caregivers Coalition (NMCC) to support a caregiver recruitment and retention program. The grant is part of the MolinaCares for Families initiative, in which MolinaCares has committed over $400,000 to various community-based organizations to improve access to care statewide.

With the grant funding, New Mexico Caregivers Coalition will expand caregiver workforce programs to best serve aging and disabled populations. According to PHI, between 2016 and 2026, it’s projected that there will be over 75,000 job openings for caregivers in New Mexico. However, with 64% of current caregivers in or near poverty, recruitment and retention are difficult, a need which MolinaCares aims to support through the MolinaCares for Families initiative.

“In New Mexico there are more than 62,000 paid and 217,000 unpaid caregivers providing vital support every day,” said Adrienne Smith, president and CEO of NMCC. “This grant will allow us to address that gap by expanding our Caregiver Basic Needs Program to enhance recruitment and retention of caregivers in areas with shortages.”

NMCC will recruit caregivers and give them a monthly income to supplement their regular income, as long as they stay on the job for twelve months. The program will also enable NMCC to provide resources to the recruited caregivers that will support their success.

“We’re honored to work with New Mexico Caregivers Coalition,” said Carolyn Ingram, plan president of Molina Healthcare of New Mexico. “For those living in rural and frontier areas or facing socioeconomic barriers, and our most vulnerable populations, we are working with incredible community partners like NMCC to break down barriers and elevate equitable access to care.”
