LAS VEGAS, May 7, 2024 –  Molina Healthcare of Nevada (“Molina”), in collaboration with The MolinaCares Accord, has donated a$100,000 grant to Nevada PEP to advance behavioral health and mental health care services for children with disabilities and their families. The grant was recently presented to Nevada PEP at a special celebration, in observance of National Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Week.

The grant will help fund Nevada PEP’s Family Peer Support Services program, which connects families to peer support specialists with similar life experiences to listen to their concerns and offer resources to address their needs.

Dedicated to increasing the opportunities for success at home, at school, and in the community, Nevada PEP focuses on supporting children who have or are at risk of having serious emotional disturbances. The organization provides education, encouragement and empowerment activities for the children, their families and their service providers.

“Committed to Nevada, Molina shares Nevada PEP’s mission to provide high-quality care and support for children in our community facing behavioral and mental health challenges,” said Rob Baughman, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Nevada. “We understand the enormous impact it can make in a child’s health and well-being and are grateful for the opportunity to share in this life-changing work.”

In 2022, about 32,000 Nevada youth (13.8%) were reported to have experienced severe major depression within a one-year period. To address this growing concern, Nevada PEP offers a wide variety of services free of charge to Nevada families looking for guidance.

One mom commented, “I think I was meant to connect with PEP … it is the first time in eight years that I don’t feel judged when talking about my daughter’s behaviors.”   Another parent stated, “I never had something like this before … it has really helped me with being a better advocate for my daughter.”
