OMAHA, Neb. September 8, 2025 – Molina Healthcare of Nebraska (“Molina”), in collaboration with Open Door Mission, hosted a birthday celebration for children at the Lydia House shelter. Kids enjoyed a bounce house, cotton candy, snow cones, airbrush tattoos, photobooth, and more. Every child also received a birthday goodie bag.
The Lydia House provides emergency services and basic needs for women and families. Open Door Mission also offers programs which address the causes of homelessness such as abuse, addiction, or the inability to obtain and maintain steady employment. Nearly 1 out of every 5 individuals experiencing homelessness served in the state is a child. Over 55,000 Nebraska children live in poverty.
“For the kids and families who are experiencing homelessness, they are going through a challenging and traumatic time in their lives,” said Candace Gregory, president and chief operating officer at Open Door Mission. “We are so grateful to Molina Healthcare of Nebraska for hosting this event, which allows the kids to just be kids and have some fun. Every child wants to feel special, and events like this really show them that people really do care.”
“Open Door Mission is a longtime partner and we are pleased to collaborate in a meaningful way to show our support for the families staying at Lydia House,” said Frank Clepper, plan president for Molina Healthcare of Nebraska. “Children deserve moments of happiness, and challenging circumstances shouldn’t deprive them of that. We are happy to bring moments of joy to those living in the shelter. “
