Molina Healthcare of Nebraska Food Distribution Event Helps Over 400 People in Need

Broken Bow, Neb., May 3, 2025 – Molina Healthcare of Nebraska, in partnership with the Sandhills Community Collaborative, Mid-Plains Community College and Loup Basin Public Health Department, distributed free food items to families in need to help combat food insecurity in the area. The event offered breakfast foods, meal kits, fruits, canned goods, sandwich supplies and snacks. In all, 158 households and 431 individuals were served. Volunteers helped Nebraskans from six counties, with some participants driving more than an hour. According to the Food Bank for the Heartland, 14.3 % of individuals in Custer County are food insecure. A report from Hunger Free America showed that between 2021 and 2023, Nebraska had the third highest household food insecurity rate in the country at 22.6%, well above the national average of 16.8%.
