TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., June 4, 2025 – Molina Healthcare of Michigan (“Molina”) announced a donation of $3,500 to the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (“NMCAA”). The funding will support the organization’s Homeless Prevention, Street Outreach, and Rapid Re-housing programs. According to a state government report, the region including Traverse City saw a 56% jump in homeless individuals after the COVID-19 pandemic. The three programs seek to get Michiganders into a more stable housing environment as quickly as possible.

The Homeless Prevention program offers centralized intake, housing assessments, and comprehensive support for families and individuals experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness across 23 counties in northern Michigan.

Street Outreach provides essential services crucial for reaching unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness and plays a vital role in helping individuals transition from homelessness to a more stable, secure life.

Rapid Re-housing helps individuals and families with children living on the street or in emergency shelters to make their experience of homelessness as brief as possible. Accomplishing this involves quickly moving them into permanent housing and supporting the household in their efforts to live as independently as possible.

“Stable housing is the foundation upon which health and well-being is built and Molina is proud to support Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency’s efforts to build that foundation as quickly as possible,” said Terrisca Des Jardins, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan. “With housing concerns addressed, individuals can focus on seeking regular health care, developing healthier habits, and other actions that improve health outcomes.”

“NMCAA appreciates Molina’s donation, which empowers us to respond quickly to the evolving needs of the individuals and families we serve,” said Sarah Hughes, homeless programs director of NMCAA. “These vital donations support access to essential resources such as personal care products, food, clothing, as well as household items.”
