FERNDALE, MI, Aug. 13, 2026Molina Healthcare of Michigan (“Molina”) announced a donation to a local nonprofit focused on LGBTQ+ seniors struggling with access to food and barriers to housing and social services. The $25,000 grant to Michigan LGBTQ+ Elders Network (“MiGen”) will allow the organization to increase food deliveries, utility assistance, housing counseling, and long-term care advocacy.

MiGen provides a wide network of services, including food box deliveries, volunteer companionship, Medicaid and Medicare counseling, socialization services, and referrals for medical and behavioral healthcare. The grant will enable MiGen to continue providing free, culturally affirming programs that help vulnerable LGBTQ+ older adults remain healthy, safe, and independent in their communities.

“For many LGBTQ+ older adults, access to food and maintaining stable housing means navigating difficult tradeoffs between basic needs, housing costs, and access to support,” said Kat Hutton, director of programs for MiGen. “This investment allows us to provide tangible assistance that reduces those pressures while building trusted connections that link older adults to ongoing resources, services, and community support beyond a single moment of crisis.”

In addition to the funding, Molina employees provided on-the-ground support. Recently, a team of volunteers packed food boxes containing items such as potatoes, olive oil, healthy snacks, rice mix, and bread. Molina staff then delivered the boxes to 15 MiGen client homes throughout Detroit.

“Molina is committed to the betterment of the communities it serves and is proud to support programs designed to help traditionally marginalized populations close health and wellness gaps,” said Terrisca Des Jardins, plan president, Molina Healthcare of Michigan. “We applaud the work of MiGen’s community connectors who remove barriers to the basic needs of the aging LGBTQ+ Michiganders and are pleased to help expand their impact.”
