GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., November 5, 2025Molina Healthcare of Michigan (“Molina”) announced a $25,000 grant to Kids’ Food Basket to address child food insecurity caused by the recent pause in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In addition to delivering a check to the nonprofit organization, Molina employee volunteers were on site packing up food to be distributed to families in need across Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa and Allegan Counties.

Molina’s donation will provide critical support to Kids’ Food Basket Sack Supper program which provides healthy, ready-to-eat meals every weekday to children. Each meal contains a protein, vegetables, fruit and a healthy snack. Approximately 11,000 meals are delivered to 66 area schools for students to take home in the evening. Sack Suppers are sourced responsibly, often from local farms. The gift will also help support KFB’s immediate response to the SNAP pause, including 13,500 meal bags, each containing 15 items, packed and distributed to KFB partner schools this week.

“As Michigan faces paused SNAP assistance, we are pivoting swiftly and compassionately to meet the increased need for healthy and nutritious food.” said Erika Abbo, chief operating officer for Kids’ Food Basket. “We are endlessly thankful for Molina’s generosity during this critical time. This gift will provide tens of thousands of servings of shelf stable and fresh produce items directly to kids and families who need it most.”

Molina’s funding will help bridge the gap for families with SNAP benefits, which were paused due to the federal government shutdown. The food assistance program provides support to nearly 13% of Michigan households (approximately 1.4 million people). Of Michiganders receiving SNAP, about 43% are families with children and 36% are families with members who are older adults or disabled.

“We realize that the pause in SNAP benefits will be challenging for many of the families the Kids’ Food Basket serves, and we want to support them during this surge in demand,” said Terrisca Des Jardins, plan president for Molina Healthcare of Michigan. “Molina is proud to be one part of the solution by working with local organizations like Kids’ Food Basket to provide stability in an unstable time.”
