LANSING, Mich., November 11, 2025 – Molina Healthcare of Michigan (“Molina”), in collaboration with The MolinaCares Accord, announced a donation to the Food Bank Council of Michigan as pantries across the state become strained due to the holidays and uncertainty of future Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (“SNAP”) benefits. The $50,000 grant will support the FBCM’s hunger relief efforts related to the government shutdown and disruption in SNAP benefits.
“We are thankful for Molina’s commitment to helping families across Michigan,” said Dr. Phil Knight, executive director, Michigan Food Bak Council. “Their leadership and compassion remind us that standing together is the strongest way to serve our communities.”
The pause in SNAP benefits put a strain on food banks across the country. SNAP impacts nearly 13% of Michigan households (approximately 1.4 million people in Michigan). Of Michiganders receiving SNAP, about 43% are families with children and 36% are families with members who are older adults or disabled. Approximately 1 in 6 individuals in Michigan face hunger, including over 400,000 children.
“Molina is pleased to be a part of the solution during this challenging time by contributing to the Food Bank Council of Michigan’s efforts in getting nutritious food to families across the state,” said Terrisca Des Jardins, plan president, Molina Healthcare of Michigan.
This is just Molina’s most recent donation to address food insecurity. Last week, employee volunteers packed food for distribution at the Kids’ Food Basket in Grand Rapids. Molina also donated $25,000 to deal with the rise in hunger.
