Molina Healthcare of Illinois and Partners Provide Thanksgiving Meals to Local Families

CHICAGO, Dec. 11, 2023 – Molina Healthcare of Illinois (“Molina”) partnered with local community groups, health organizations, and leaders across Illinois to distribute turkeys and Thanksgiving meals to families in need. The holidays can be a particularly stressful time for over 9% of Illinois residents who are facing food insecurity. Through these food drives, Molina hopes to have made an impact.

“At Molina, we value partnering with local community groups to meet the needs of individuals and families not only during for the holiday season, but throughout the year,” said Matt Wolf, president of Molina Healthcare of Illinois. “Dozens of Illinois counties are struggling with food insecurity rates over 10% and we want to do our part to bring those numbers down.”

Partnering with Alderperson Jessie Fuentes, State Senator Omar Aquino (D-IL), and UNIDOM, Molina distributed 500 turkeys to residents of Chicago’s 26th Ward on November 19. Together, over 50 hot meals were provided to the Center Home for the Hispanic Elderly where recipients also enjoyed an afternoon of board games and bingo.

“It was an honor to partner with Molina Healthcare of Illinois, Alderperson Fuentes, and UNIDOM to provide turkeys to families in need this holiday season,” said State Senator Omar Aquino. “Food insecurity is impacting a growing number of families in Illinois, and it is encouraging to see organizations like Molina lead efforts to make a difference in our communities.”

Additionally, Molina supplied over 400 bags of food to the Englewood and Roseland neighborhoods on November 18. Shiloh Baptist Church joined Molina in Englewood, distributing 100 bags of food, including pantry items and turkeys. Molina also donated 300 turkeys to the Roseland Community Hospital’s third annual turkey giveaway.

On November 19, Molina – together with Focus On Our Community Inc. NFP, IL – provided 200 bags of Thanksgiving essentials to Quad City residents. Giveaways were also held in Freeport and Collinsville on November 21 as Bethany United Church of Christ and Molina hosted a Freeport drive-thru event. Each car received a turkey or ham along with a bag filled with Thanksgiving staples. Finally, 300 hot to-go meals were handed out from Spirit of Sharing Soup Kitchen and Molina in Collinsville.

Molina continues to seek creative ways to engage with communities across Illinois in the fight against food insecurity and looks forward to many more years of holiday giveaways to come.
