LONG BEACH, Calif., Dec. 16, 2021 – The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of health care, selected Molina Healthcare of California (“Molina”) as a participant for its Health Equity Accreditation Plus pilot program.

“We are thrilled NCQA selected Molina to participate in this crucial program designed to address the complexities of the health care landscape and unique needs of our members,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California.

“Health equity is a key consideration in everything we do at Molina and we look forward to working with NCQA to achieve the shared goal of improving health outcomes.” The Health Equity Accreditation Plus pilot program is targeted at organizations that are already prioritizing health equity as a general practice. It builds on the efforts of NCQA’s Health Equity Accreditation program, which assesses overall quality and effectiveness of health plans, systems and organizations.

Molina, along with eight other organizations, will collaborate to test the application of Health Equity Accreditation Plus during the pilot. “Our work with Molina Healthcare of California emphasizes the importance of collaboration across the health care industry when developing new, quality-focused systems” said Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA president. “We look forward to the findings of our participating organizations and the shared ideas we develop that will improve the Health Equity Accreditation Plus standards, as well as health equity and health care quality for all communities.”

The pilot program findings will be used to streamline and enhance the effectiveness of Health Equity Accreditation Plus before it is made available to health plans, health systems and other care organizations in Spring 2022. Molina Healthcare of California is one of only nine pilot participants in the Health Equity Accreditation Plus Program.
