LOS ANGELES, Nov. 09, 2021 – Molina Healthcare of California (“Molina”) and the
United Way of Greater Los Angeles have launched a strategic partnership focused on
combating Los Angeles’ housing and homelessness crisis. The partnership includes a
$70,000 donation to provide funding for Everyone In, a campaign powered by United Way
of Greater Los Angeles to advance strategies to end homelessness.

Through the partnership, Molina will examine the root causes and explore solutions to
minimizing homelessness, as well as play an active role in helping people move into
permanent housing. Additionally, Molina will engage with civic and philanthropic leaders
to address the challenges related to the Los Angeles housing and homelessness crisis
while advocating for solutions.

“This partnership reinforces Molina’s commitment to addressing social determinants of
health that prevent many Angelenos from thriving,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of
Molina Healthcare of California. “Homelessness in Los Angeles County has increased by
13 percent over the past two years and our shared goal is to end this public welfare and
health epidemic.”

L.A. County is simultaneously facing a homelessness crisis and a housing crisis. L.A.
County residents pay 32 percent more in rent today than they did in the year 2000, while
average renter income has decreased by three percent over that same period. At the
same time, many of the most vulnerable Angelenos have inadequate access to health
care. Molina’s efforts will include increasing access to health education and care for the
most underserved in Los Angeles.

“In L.A. County, more than 721,000 households spend over half their income just on rent
and are at risk of losing their houses,” said Tommy Newman, vice president of
engagement and activation at United Way of Greater Los Angeles. “To truly address the
crisis of homelessness and ensure our unhoused neighbors have the opportunity to live
healthy and fulfilling lives, we need big solutions that bring everyone in. Our friends and
partners at Molina understand that, and that’s why we’re grateful they have stepped up
as leaders in the fight to end homelessness.”
