EL CAJON and LONG BEACH, Calif., Nov. 18, 2024 – Molina Healthcare of California (“Molina”) recently held two community baby showers to provide support and resources for local moms as part of its commitment to improving health outcomes for mothers and their children.

In 2023, California’s preterm birth rate was 9.2%, which is higher than the rate in 2022.  As of April 2023, the infant mortality rate in California was 4 deaths per 1,000 births. Research suggests that social determinants of health are a major driver of health disparities.

“We are committed to improving the health and well-being of underserved communities in California, including expecting mothers,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We are grateful for the opportunity to provide critical supplies and resources that can help make this time in their lives a little easier.”

The free events, held at Molina One-Stop Help Centers in El Cajon and Long Beach, offered a fun way for attendees to learn about support, services and resources available to them to help ensure a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and beyond. Doulas and other providers were available to meet and greet attendees. Guests created paintings for their newborns to come. There was also a safe sleep demonstration.

Each event also included refreshments, door prizes, baby gifts and more. Attendees received a gift bag filled with items including formula, wipes, baby shampoo, and diapers.
