LONG BEACH, Calif., May 5, 2025 – Molina Healthcare of California (“Molina”) recently recognized Los Angeles area residents for their commitment to serving those in need. Three individuals were named MolinaCares Community Champions, receiving a $5,000 grant to pay forward to the nonprofit organization of their choice.

“At Molina, we are committed to improving the health and well-being of underserved communities in the greater Los Angeles area,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We are honored to recognize these amazing individuals who share our vision of making a positive impact in their community.”

This year’s Los Angeles MolinaCares Community Champions are:

Pablo Alvarado of Pasadena is founder and co-executive director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), an organization that improves the lives of day laborers. For over 25 years, Alvarado has been dedicated to addressing disparities faced by day laborers and low-wage workers. He led a community relief effort in response to the Los Angeles wildfires. His day-laborer-led clean-up brigades cleared over 3,100 tons of debris, and his efforts have mobilized more than 10,000 volunteers. Alvarado has also sought to ensure vulnerable workers have the necessary PPE, health and safety training, and policies in place to protect them as they work. Alvarado’s grant will be donated to the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.

Brenda Contreras of East Los Angeles is a dedicated immigration services director at the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation. A passionate advocate for immigrants in Los Angeles, Contreras provides training to help nonprofits establish immigration departments so they can provide services to those in need. She has assisted more than 5,000 persons with immigration-related matters and organized large-scale citizenship events. She accompanies clients to USCIS interviews, provides interpretation services, and has achieved a 100% pass rate for clients’ citizenship exams. She established a referral system to provide clients access to services such as career coaching and public benefits, once they gain legal status. Contreras’ grant will be donated to the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation.

Eloise Parker of Long Beach is the founder and executive director of GP Care Packages & Blankets of Love, a non-profit helping people experiencing homelessness and families in need. Parker started the organization using her own funds to make care packages filled with essential items for people experiencing homelessness, which led to community donations and support. Having experienced homelessness herself for 10 years, Parker then graduated college and started working at a Long Beach hospital. Over the years, the organization she started has helped thousands, including 2,000 homeless individuals and families affected by disasters. Parker works with orphans,

homeless college students and women’s shelters. Parker’s grant will be donated to GP Care Packages & Blankets of Love.
