RIVERSIDE, CA –  May 11, 2026 — As summer heats up in Riverside County, The Salvation Army is prepared to serve families in need thanks to a new refrigerated service truck made possible through a collaboration with Molina Healthcare of California (“Molina”).

The truck, introduced at a recent unveiling event, supports a shared mission to care for the community by providing access to resources like fresh produce, dairy, and other items that can easily spoil when transported in excessive heat.

Riverside community leadership joined Molina and Salvation Army executives at The Salvation Army’s Riverside Corps on May 8 to unveil the service truck and celebrate this new resource for those most in need within our community.

“Food insecurity continues to affect about 12% of families in Riverside County,” shared Major David Shull of The Salvation Army Riverside Corps. “The ability to preserve food while transporting, even in the hottest times, allows us to consistently meet the need.”

The unveiling included a testimony from Ken Mackillop, who shared how he had received food, support, and help from The Salvation Army. Ken and his family are some of the 6,344 clients who accessed pantry services last year. In addition, 4,174 meals were provided to individuals experiencing homelessness in Riverside County, ensuring access to consistent and nutritious food.

“Molina shares The Salvation Army’s dedication to improving the health and well-being of underserved communities,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We are grateful for the opportunity to join in this mission to ensure access to fresh, nutritious food and help families in our community thrive.”

The Salvation Army has served Riverside County since 1892 and, more than 130 years later, continues to provide essential services and programs for vulnerable communities.

“The Salvation Army can only meet these daily needs by working alongside community-focused organizations like Molina to improve the lives and well-being of those most in need,” said Lt. Colonel Mike Dickinson, Southern California Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army.
