LAS VEGAS, Feb. 8, 2023 –The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Nevada (“Molina”), recently presented $20,000 to Nevada PEP, Inc. in support of the Family Peer Support Program, a service that connects parents of children with mental and behavioral health needs to other parents with similar experiences. The grant will fund 350 hours of service.
The goal of the program is to decrease isolation, promote self-care for parents, increase feelings of acceptance and appreciation of the child’s challenges, and provide both formal and informal supports.
Designed to help improve the quality of and access to behavioral health services available, the program is intended to assist youth and families in building the foundation for a successful future related to mental health and family relationships.
“MolinaCares is dedicated to increasing access to quality care and supporting families of youth experiencing behavioral and mental health needs,” said Rob Baughman, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Nevada. “This program successfully aligns these two goals and allows families the chance to work together to create concrete solutions with the help of qualified, experienced individuals.”
Those providing services within the program are individuals who have experience raising a child with disabilities, emotional or behavioral needs, and are certified by the National Federation of Families. Services are provided in a structured, one-on-one relationship that is culturally and linguistically appropriate.
“We are grateful for the MolinaCares grant, which helps to make these services possible,” said Karen Taycher, executive director at Nevada PEP. “Our hope is that through this program, we can increase the family’s capacity to help reduce their child’s emotional and behavioral symptoms and enhance the process of recovery.”
