LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 8, 2023 — The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Passport by Molina Healthcare  (“Passport”), announced a $10,000 donation to Simmons College of Kentucky to fund scholarships for students in need of financial assistance. Passport’s support of one of Kentucky’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) builds on its efforts to address societal inequities through education.

The scholarship funding aims to help close the educational attainment gap for underrepresented minorities in Kentucky. The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education Progress Report shows underrepresented minorities are below the state average for college retention and graduation rates, and they obtain just 13% of bachelor degrees earned in Kentucky.

“We are proud to help the students of Simmons College of Kentucky reach their academic goals by providing financial support during their educational journey,” said Ryan Sadler, plan president of Passport by Molina Healthcare. “Education is critical to ending the cycle of poverty, a significant factor in health outcomes for Black families. Passport is committed to addressing this and other social determinants of health to create a more equitable Kentucky.”

“Passport by Molina Healthcare has consistently invested in the community, and we are grateful for their support of Louisville’s historical Black college,” said Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, president of Simmons College of Kentucky.

Just last month, The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation made another financial commitment to the academic success of Black students in Kentucky. A $10,000 check was presented to the United Negro College Fund at its annual luncheon in Louisville.
