NEW BEDFORD, Mass., Oct. 28, 2025Molina Healthcare (“Molina”), in collaboration with The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), announced three grants totaling $117,600 to support local organizations addressing food insecurity for seniors. The donations will help fund free breakfasts, distribution of fresh produce and healthy food education. The recipients are The Greater Boston Food Bank, Coastal Foodshed and Coastline Elderly Services.

According to the Greater Boston Food Bank’s most recent report, Food Equity and Access in Massachusetts, food insecurity among Massachusetts households has continued to rise even after the pandemic, with 1 in 3 households reporting “running out of food or not having enough money to buy food each month.” Feeding America’s latest data show 133,388 Massachusetts seniors are food insecure. That number represents a 20% jump from just two years prior.

The grants, which aim to reduce these disparities, will be distributed as follows:

Coastal Foodshed ($39,600) – The donation will fund food distribution and preparation services. Each month, 100 bags of fresh, locally-grown produce will be delivered to low-income senior housing sites. Twenty-four live cooking demonstrations will show individuals how best to prepare the food they have received.

Coastline Elderly Services ($43,000) – Molina will continue its free breakfast program with the non-profit, benefitting residents in Tripp Towers and Boa Vista. The meals are available five days a week. The program not only provides nutritious meals to a population with limited mobility and fixed incomes, but also fosters social connection during the meal, which can benefit mental well-being by reducing isolation.

Greater Boston Food Bank ($35,000) – Through this grant, the food bank will host monthly Mobile Markets for seniors in New Bedford. The Mobile Market will provide about 80,000 pounds of nutritious food over the course of the year, serving about 300 seniors per month. The food is delivered to health centers and other locations where those in need can access the fresh produce in a farmer’s market-style setting.

“We have seen, firsthand, the positive impact these three organizations have on Massachusetts’ elderly population through our numerous collaborations surrounding food insecurity, and Molina is proud to expand support for their work,” said Bill Graham, plan president for Molina Healthcare. “Combined with the access to high-quality care, these food-based initiatives improve longevity and quality of life by decreasing risks of malnutrition, mental health challenges and chronic diseases.”
