Local Partnerships, Lasting Impact: Advancing North Carolina Communities’ Health

Over the past year, Molina Healthcare of North Carolina showed up for communities across the state, partnered with local organizations, listened to neighbors, and got to work to help improve health outcomes through local initiatives. From behavioral and maternal health to meeting families’ basic needs, the Molina team worked to build a stronger, healthier state for all North Carolinians.

In Northeastern North Carolina, Molina began the year partnering with Trusted Community Partners of the Southeast and the RISE Foundation to host a community health fair in Ahoskie following the town’s 2025 MLK Jubilee March. Hertford County has fewer primary care physicians per resident than the state average, highlighting ongoing gaps in access to routine care and the importance of bringing preventive services directly into the community. Ahoskie residents received vital health resources and screenings while sharing their stories directly with the Molina team.

In the Piedmont region, Molina teamed up with The Big E Life Changers, Inc., supporting a series of events focused on behavioral health and suicide prevention, including the NAMI Sharing Hope Series in Cabarrus – creating a safe, culturally attuned space for mental health conversations in the Black community. With only 1 in 3 Black adults receiving the mental health treatment they need, initiatives like these are vital to open dialogue and empower North Carolinians to prioritize their mental health.

Through a unique collaboration with United Way of Greater Charlotte and other major nonprofit and healthcare partners, Molina supported A Home For All’s Wellness Without Walls, a psychiatry program providing mental health treatment for unhoused adults living with behavioral health disorders. Over 25% of North Carolina’s unhoused population lives with a mental illness, and the Wellness Without Walls program is helping to bridge that gap by bringing care directly to individuals where they are.

In Charlotte and Greensboro, Molina advanced maternal health through partnerships with nonprofit EMBRACE, co-hosting a free Maternal Health Day with care services, family workshops, and vaccinations. Molina also partnered with YWCA Greensboro’s Healthy Moms Healthy Babies program, hosting a “Maternal Mental Health 101” workshop to raise awareness about perinatal behavioral health challenges, supporting the 1 in 5 perinatal patients who experience behavioral health concerns.

In the Triangle region, Molina partnered with Uplift Laundry Truck, a nonprofit addressing laundry insecurity, to host five free laundry events across Durham, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro for individuals and families. With 1 in 5 students lacking consistent access to clean clothes, improving access to laundry helps children attend school confidently and allows families to dedicate resources to other essential hygiene needs, such as soap, personal care items, and diapers.

Through every community partnership and engagement event this year, Molina met residents where they were —listening to their stories and gaining a deeper understanding of the health needs that shaped their daily lives. Molina remains committed to working in North Carolina communities to ensure individuals and families across the state have the support, resources, and care they need to thrive.
