Mother’s Day Spa-Tacular in Texas

Molina honors Texas mothers through food drive and gifts

Among the many negative outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity has increased in communities across Texas and the United States.

According to 2018 data from Feeding America, one in seven Texans were food insecure, with one in five Texans under 18 being food insecure. It is well documented that not having adequate nutritious foods negatively affects the body both physically and mentally – leading to slower development in children and hurting the mental health of adults and children alike.

MolinaCares of Texas is committed to the health and wellbeing of all Texans, and we know that having enough nutritious food to eat is the foundation of a healthy life. To help feed our neighbors, Molina Healthcare of Texas provided monetary donations to nine foodbanks and pantries across the state to fund approximately 4,800 meals, 260 family boxes, and adopt two families to feed for the year.

In addition to the donations, MolinaCares of Texas staff members volunteered at foodbanks and pantries in the days before Mother’s Day to hand out roses and spa hygiene kits to mothers and mother figures picking up food. Texas’ mothers and mother figures have been integral in keeping families healthy during the pandemic, and we wanted to honor their efforts and help them relax and care for themselves.
