LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 11, 2024 — The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Passport by Molina Healthcare (“Passport”), announced a $20,000 donation to Simmons College of Kentucky to fund scholarships for students in need of financial assistance. Passport’s support of Kentucky’s First Historically Black College or University (HBCU) builds on the college’s efforts of addressing societal inequities through education.
This funding doubles the Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation’s $10,000 donation in 2023. The money helps address gaps in students’ financial support. Last year’s grant paid for career services, meals, counselling and other medical needs. Approximately 8 in 10 Simmons students receive Pell Grants – federal dollars awarded to students deemed to be below the poverty line, but that may not fully cover all education expenses.
“With this contribution, we hope to create new opportunities for students at Simmons College of Kentucky by helping to relieve some of their financial strain,” said Ryan Sadler, the plan president of Passport by Molina Healthcare. “At Passport, we believe that a proper education lays the solid foundation for a successful, healthy and satisfying life. We’re eager to see more students in Kentucky achieve their goals and thrive after graduation.”
Simmons College of Kentucky is an institution of biblical higher education dedicated to education individuals so they may become productive citizens and agents of change in society. Simmons’ Black-centric curriculum builds the strength of character and sense of ethical perseverance needed to truly make a difference – no matter the course of study.
“We are grateful for the continued support of Passport and the Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation for their commitment to the wellbeing of our students,” said Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, the president of Simmons College of Kentucky. “With help of partners like these, we are eliminating barriers to young men and women seeking academic and career success.”
