BOSTON, October 17, 2024 – Senior Whole Health by Molina Healthcare (“Senior Whole Health”) is proud to announce a partnership with the UMass Dartmouth Nursing Education Program. Thirty-eight students will join Senior Whole Health employees to provide health care services and critical resources, including blood pressure screenings, vaccinations and health education at sites across the South Coast.

Massachusetts is facing a shortage of 4,064 registered nurses. A recent survey of nurses from the Massachusetts Nurses Association found 60% of respondents cited understaffing as the biggest challenge to delivering high quality health care in the commonwealth. This partnership will help grow the workforce, while also giving students valuable clinical experiences to develop their knowledge and expertise.

“We are proud to work with a partner like UMass Dartmouth that shares our commitment to implementing innovative solutions to deliver care directly in our communities,” said Bill Graham, plan president of Senior Whole Health. “This collaboration will equip future nurses with the valuable experience they need to provide high-quality care to Bay Staters.”

Through the partnership, UMass Dartmouth students will administer care under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor. Services will be provided at senior affordable housing buildings and various other sites in the South Coast, supported by Senior Whole Health’s Mobile Health Unit and supplies and equipment donated by the health plan.

“We are grateful to collaborate with Senior Whole Health to ensure residents are receiving the care they need, while also empowering our students with the knowledge and expertise that only comes from face-to-face patient interaction,” said dean of the UMass Dartmouth College of Nursing and Health Sciences Kimberly A. Christopher, PhD, RN. “By equipping the next generation of nurses with the skills to provide the highest quality care, we can build a healthier Massachusetts together.”

This partnership expands upon Senior Whole Health’s commitment to enhancing care and wellness for seniors by bringing services directly to the communities where they live. Senior Whole Health previously announced a $500,000 grant to reduce health disparities for seniors at Massachusetts affordable housing sites.
