BOSTON, Sept. 20, 2023 – Senior Whole Health by Molina Healthcare presented $20,000 to the Greater Boston Food Bank (“GBFB”) at WCVB-TV’s fifth annual Day of Giving telethon.
Senior Whole Health employees have staffed GBFB telethon phone lines for the past two years and this effort has supplied nearly 10 million meals to Boston-area residents since 2019.
“Senior Whole Health is proud to support the Greater Boston Food Bank’s efforts to combat the growing problem of food insecurity,” said Bill Graham, plan president of Senior Whole Health by Molina Healthcare. “The number of nutritious meals an individual receives is a significant social determinant of health, and many of our members have benefitted from GBFB’s work to meet their food needs.”
According to a GBFB report, 1/3 of the state’s population reported household food insecurity. Black (50%) and Hispanic (61%) residents reported at a higher rate than other ethnicities. Last year, GBFB distributed 109 million pounds of healthy food at food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and other locations.
Senior Whole Health employees volunteered with GBFB for two days in August, assembling meal boxes containing over 25,000 meals.
