Molina Healthcare of New Mexico Sponsors Winning Roswell Team in Governor’s STEM Challenge

ROSWELL, January 26, 2022 – Molina Healthcare of New Mexico sponsored the Roswell High School STEM team’s successful submission at the third annual New Mexico Governor’s STEM Challenge. The competition, hosted by New Mexico State University, tested high school students’ ability to use science, technology, engineering, and math to solve real-world problems.

The question posed in the challenge was, “How would you use science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to make life better for your family, community, state or country?” The five-member, all-female Roswell High School team took up the challenge of addressing heart disease, building a three-dimensional model of an artificial heart and introducing the concept of using stem cells to regenerate the heart. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in New Mexico.
Molina Healthcare of New Mexico joined 22 industry partners, educators, volunteers, and government officials to judge the competition and provided a cash award of $5,000 to the Roswell High School team, giving each member $500 for their successful effort.
